Canyon has a long-term commitment to developing sustainably in Cameroon.
Through the Company’s 100% owned in-country subsidiary Camalco, there has been and continues to be a strong focus on delivering economic prosperity and development to local communities and generating long-term value for all stakeholders.
Environmental Stewardship
Committed to responsibly managing our environmental performance, with a focus on biodiversity preservation and water stewardship:
- Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) developed with leading African consultants (incl. Rainbow Environmental Consult, ESS, WSP Golder)
- Annual rehabilitation contribution of 7bn FCFA (~US$11m) upon production

Social Development
The local community strongly supports Minim Martap, recognising the significant long-term economic benefits of the Project:
- Economic and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) completed in 2021 to IFC/World Bank standards
- Local employment with Cameroonians comprising 97% of total workforce
- Contribution to the development and rehabilitation of local infrastructure (railway and port), as well as a major contribution to the volumes’ growth transiting through the Port of Douala
